Lil Autumn Rae decided that December 12th was going to be the big day. Julie awoke around 5:15am when her water broke. Mike & me arrived at Northside hospital around 8:00am and were immediately admitted to room 1A.
We were very fortunate. We were assigned an excellent nurse, Megan, who put many of my fears to rest. I was administered Petocin to bring on the contractions, but 8 hours later, my cervix had not softened nor did Autumn drop down in the birth canal. What did that mean? The dreaded C-Section (which turned out to be a blessing).
Originally, Dr. Blank said it would be around 5:30pm when we would begin delivery. Well, the epideral was not given until around 6:30pm and Mike accompanied me to the delivery room around 7:05pm. Our little bundle of joy was delivered at 7:10pm weighing in 9.86 lbs and 20.5 inches. She was "beautiful" according to Michael - that is all he could say at the moment. After about three hours in the recovery room, we were finally transported to a permanent room (699) and our screaming little one was heard by all in the process.
